A new song: Ode to WOW, 2016

There are many spontaneous creative moments shared amongst the choir members at Unanderra Pub. For example, in 2016, re-writing the words to John Fogerty’s hit song, Proud Mary, a new song was conceived to reflect Circus WOW. The song Ode to WOW was first performed with the Cabbage Tree Combo at one of their concerts at the City Diggers Club in Wollongong in 2018, where the band enjoyed sharing their music and creating a space for guests to dance.

Along with the choir’s performance, several acts from the recent Portraits of WOW show were performed: The Golden Gaytimes, Cracked, The Space Between and Bathing Belles.

Lyrics (Acquired Taste)

And we’re rolling, rolling,
rolling with the circus…

Left a good job down in Melbourne
working for the rehab all day long
but I never lost one minute of sleepin’
worrying about my move to Wollongong

Big hoops keep on turning
WOW circus keeps on burning
and we’re rolling, rolling,
rolling with the circus

Saw them making steel in Kembla
Walked the Seacliff Bridge in the
pouring rain

but I never saw the good side of the city
until I hitched a ride on the
Circus WOW train

Well, if you come down to the circus
bet you’re gonna find some
women who live,
you don’t have to worry,
girl you’ve got no rhythm,
women in the circus are happy to give

Big hoops keep on turning
WOW circus keeps on burning
and we’re rolling, rolling,
rolling with the circus
